Just be careful not to hammer your stakes in or the tubing will eventually split.

is there any weight advantage to TI once you put all this fancy stuff on it?

Eric,

I don't know how much weight my heat shrink tubing adds. It's miniscule though. The tubing is light and I'm only using about 1" now per stake. I don't have a scale sensitive enough to discern the difference but my Ti stakes w/ heat shrink tubing feels lighter to me than my slightly larger diameter alum stakes of the same length.

You know, I think I've tried all of these ideas at one point or another, but my best results have been tying little strands of florescent orange guyline string to them. Highly visible and assists with pulling them. Just girth a small hitch a loop around the hooked section.

For my bigger tent that has more stakes I'll swap the loops with that relfective accessory cord stuff that shines at night. That also helps not tripping on the frikkin guylines since the stake is so visible at night.
