I had the jacket and found it to be pretty warm as well as block the wind, however, since I could only have one jacket, I traded it for the Parka, just in case. In my opinion, the only difference is that it will keep winds from sneaking in around the collar. Now that I have my BRG down hat though, I think the jacket with the hat would have been quite alright since I could have simply used my hard shell over it anyway. But then again, I guess I would rather be a little warmer than colder…

I did some video reviews of each of them on my blog:

Casey,

If you want to buy local, you can buy Montbell products at Oregon Mtn Community on Sandy Blvd.

And +1 on the parka : )

Thanks Steven! I didn't know they had a store like that in NE Portland. Now I can actually try different sizes on and hope for a store sale! Awesome! :D

Another +1 for the parka. I thought I hated hoods, but it does make a huge difference.

Register online or in the store at OMC and get 10% off. They also price match so look hard and deep for any sales out there. Good people too.

While I note that most think the parka is warmer. Is it that much warmer than the jacket with a down hat? Probably isn't lighter. It isn't quite as versatile IMO as having the jacket with a down hat. It costs a little more to go that route, since you'll buy the additional head covering. However you can use the head covering for sleeping without having to wear the parka. If you plan to sleep in the parka, then obviously this advantage goes away.

I second the jacket and the BlackRock gear hat.
