The stool looks great and I love how directly it compares with the light-ish and sturdy REI aluminum-legged stool. I'm new to this community, so I don't know where y'all are getting things like the carbon-fiber tubes and the cuben cloth, but I want to know more — particularly if this kind of thing "budgets out" pretty well.

What do you reckon the component cost is for your stool? Where'd you get the stuff?

That stool is great. I hate sitting on the ground. Even logs are not all that comfy.

Very nice job, BTW.

Don't know, but it wasn't the cheapest thing around. I got the CF poles for the legs from Titanium Goat. Chris Zimmer made the seat for me. I used MLD bear bag line at the ends of the legs, and the zip tie and foam at the legs' crossing point came from Lowes.

Decided to put my money where my mouth was and order the parts from Chris and TiGoat and try my hand at assembling the stool. Thanks to Doug for his untiring help thus far!

That's great! Will you give us a step-by-step in your assembly, along with your costs? You guys have a cool project here!

Okay. Assembly looks pretty nominal, and Doug has it covered here already, but I'll try to add a point or two.

Costs:

Poles from TiGoat: $60, including shipping
Cuben seat: $25, including shipping

As always, YMMV.

The foam padding and bear-bag line I already have in abundance.

This is amazing, but I think a cuben/carbon fiber Crazy Creek would be cheaper and easier to MYOG or even mass-produce. You'd only need 1/2" carbon fiber dowels, after all. I'm getting some silnylon next week, I'll see what I can do.

Doug,

I was curious to find out if you used your camp stool any more and if it seemed to work out well for you. Any major problems or things that you would change? I do carry my REI camp stool sometimes and I am thinking of trying to lighten up (one of) my comfort item(s)…
