It's very light but don't put it in the washing machine — it dissolved, leaving only the bill. I washed it because the fabric (tyvek) was stiff and crinkly.

The hats are prob very light and certainly cheap, but I'm not sure they are adjustable and could be made to be snug enough to firmly hold my Bandanna underneath. How big was the bill to keep sun off face?

The bill is OK sized for keeping the sun out. It is not adjustable, but you could slit the back and tack/sew a piece of elastic in. I wonder how it holds up in heavy rain? I didn't weigh it, but less than an ounce is believable.

Went to Home depot and scored a few of these. At $.97, how could I resist? .65 oz on my scale, BTW. I must have a big head. It fits very snugly, but not unpleasantly so.

I've had a bit of experience with Tyvek clothes. My rain jacket/ pants combo are feather light and make great clothes to wear on laundry day. However, Tyvek is not water proof. It tends to leak at the seams, so you'd have to

1. Seal the seams, adding considerably to the weight (on a percentage basis) or

2. When it's raining, use one of those cheap uberlight shower caps they provide free at some hotels. I carry one of these anyway, and it fits right over the cap.

Hrmm…I shave my head bald 24/7. Never met a hat that didn't protect me from the sun, then again never owned a ~1.5oz hat before. I don't want to carry sunscreen, but don't want to burn. Do I want to pass on this hat just because of one review? Hrmm….

Got it for my Bday.

It weighs 38g after cutting of the tags, but I did not remove anything else. The entire neck mesh is still intact. So 1.34 oz. I bet if I cut off the mesh neck, it would be ~1oz. Very nice.

I'd be very sceptical of the ability of this to protect you from sunburn. If you can see through it, the sun can burn you through it. It looks more like a visor to me.

Well, I am in the NE where we have plenty of "Green Tunnel" hiking, and this is stated on their website:

"This hat features a stainless mesh fabric that blocks UV light and provides a thermal barrier from intense heat."

From a PM I received from a fellow BPL member:
"my dad uses it and had skin cancer, so i think it must be good."
"It does have a coating, when using it as a water screen, you will need to force the water through it a bit. the silver color acts as a reflector as i see it also."

I guess time will tell. I'll have to test and report back.

Sounds good. I guess coming from the country with the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, I get a bit paranoid. Any chance of putting a stripe of 30+ sunscreen on your scalp and seeing if there's any difference in coloration? That's the definitive test!!

Make your own with a foam or other lightweight visor over some lightweight sun fabric.

So, you got an ultra light hat. Now, have the GF take a few mug shots with it on so we can see what it looks like. Congrats on the new hat! And of course, Happy Birthday.
