Anyone have a good simple calculation to estimate fuel needed on an upcoming backpacking trip?
I have already estimated that we will need to boil approximately 750ml of water per person per day. (Rehydrated meals at night appear to require about 500ml of water per person . . . I've added on another 250ml as a "general" number for a little coffee, a little oatmeal, a few "baths" and some dish washing. Does this sound good so far??
But then, how much fuel does it take to boil 750ml of water? We will carry a Jetboil Helios, an MSR reactor 2.5L, and another canister stove with a standard pot. At least the Jetboil and MSR are supposed to be very efficient . . .
We will be in the Blue Ridge Mountains — last week of June. Some elevation — moderate temperatures.
Thoughts/advice?
