by add, i mean add 10F (lower the bag rating) … literally …
so the comfort rating is 40F (women) on a hydrogen, and the lower limit is 30F (men comfort) …
a good explanation is here

Oddly enough, the 30*F bag I mentioned was a Marmot Hydrogen. It's evidently rated correctly! Of course that was before anyone in the US paid attention to EN ratings. The standard had just been adopted in Europe.
This thread has made it obvious that rather than the ratings being by sex, they should be for warm sleepers vs. cold sleepers. A number of cold-sleeping men have weighed in here, and I know a number of women who are warm sleepers!
On the other hand, I've had my WM Ultralite down to 15*F and been cozy. Of course I had all my other clothing on inside! I suspect I'd have been OK down to 10*F. A lot, of course, depends on having a warm enough pad, and it also helps to have an 80-lb. canine foot warmer!
Eric, I get the feeling you are calling me a women.
I too have to get a bag 10* warmer than the rating- maybe I'n just a wuss?
Hi all,
Thanks all for the great replies.
