I use the same setup as John for my belt. Seems to work well and then I can use it as a strap to hang my gravity filter in camp.

I just use hiking pants with a built in belt. They belt is just a light webbing belt with a sliding belt. It's worked out well enough for me. The belt on my Arc'teryx Gamma LT pants have the best design I've seen so far, at least as far as belt functionality. It's sewn in on one side. This solves the biggest problem I've had with nylon webbing belts- having bits of it twisted up.

Before that, I just used a home made belt of light nylon webbing. Webbing, needle, thread, two D-rings and 10 minutes and you have a light, functional belt.

3/4" webbing + fastex occasionally = .75 oz. +/-
