I usually wear Salomon Trail runners when backpacking. Thinking about giving The Inov-8 brand a try. Not a big fan of buying shoes online because I take all different sizes depending on the brand.

I take an 11.5 in my Salomon. Usually go with an 11 but have somewhat wide feet and had to get the 11.5 to help accomodate.

What do you think I may need in the Inov-8 line?

Thanks

As nobody has picked this up I'll give it a shot, althiugh I'm no authority…
Inov-8's are said to run narrow, so they might be a non-starter for you. I have a local dealer, and so was able to try on the shoe I was interested in, X-talon 212. I normally wear size 10, and that's what I bought…10 1/2 was a bit long. They DO seem narrow. If you do NOT have a local dealer and are not agressively comparison shoping (they don't seem to be very heavily discounted online , although I didn't shop around a whole lot) you might try Zappos, they'll cheerfully ship shoes back and forth to you at their expense, often Fedex overnight, until you can't stand it anymore.
Have fun,
Steve

I have found depending on model they can run small. It's best if you can
buy two sizes and send back the one that doesn't fit as well.

I use the 390's and get a half size larger than what I normally wear.

If you use inserts that can make a big difference too.

The Fly-Rocs are said to have a roomier footbox for longer trail days. I think Inov 8's site lists them as having their endurance last, rather than the tighter performance last which is meant for shorter days running (but more precise footwork).

I have a pair of Roclite 320's that are really sweet, and I sized up about the same as I do with other shoes (maybe that just means I have bigger feet than I thought, who knows). Then I got a pair of FlyRoc 310's in that same size, and they are a little looser in the toebox; but, so far, I've only just tried them on.

I normally wear size 12 and that is what I ordered when I got my Roclite 288 and they fit fine.

I tried a pair of a model said to have a wide toe box but they were too narrow for me. I have a wide foot for a woman, I typically buy men's shoes in a D width. Keens, which have a wide toe box work well for me.

I've tried the 295, 310, 315, 330, 390, and 230 and none have a wide toe box IMO. I feel fairly confident in saying no Inov8 model does. Having said that, the 230 works ok for me sized up 1.5 sizes because it has a stretchy toe box with no restrictive overlay at the toe cap.

The Terroc 330's have a wide toe box. None of the other Innov-8's I've tried, though, do.

I ordered two sizes of the rocklites online and sent one of them back. They fit me great, but I have narrow feet. They are VERY light which is nice, but I am a little concerned about their durability and longevity (inside the shoe the back of the heal has worn away quickly and the soles have taken a fair amount of wear and tear). I did order mine more than a year ago so I don't know how much the design has changed.

I had a pair of RocLite 390 GTX that I really wanted to love. I ordered them online a half size larger than I normally wear and they seemed to fit fine as I wore them around the house.

I did three trips with them and, in each case, could barely walk by the end of a 10-mile day. I tried inserts and insoles and nothing helped – I think they were just too narrow for my feet (especially with the stress of hiking all day).

If your feet run at all wide then I'd strongly suggest you spend a full day wearing them in your house (not just an hour or two like I did) and see how your feet feel while you can still return them.

I ended up selling mine on Gear Swap for about 1/3 what I paid for them.

If you need to try out shoes, you really cant beat Zappos. Free shipping back and forth and super easy return process. Most of the time the shoes are shipped overnight. Dont usually comment on a service, but they are just awesome.

I the past couple of years I have tried several different shoes including Inov-8 315, 370, 390, 212, 285, 288gtx and 200. I have somewhat narrow feet. The heel cup can be molded but I have not tried it. I am not sure I can shrink the heel cup. My street shoes size is 12. A size 13 X-talon fits my foot like a glove. I love them. The 390, 315 and 285 where a bit wide for me. Recently I purchased a pair of barefoot 200's in size 12.5 and they fit very well also. The 212 has tremedous grip but wears quickly. Also very light and adgile. The 200 seems not quite as gripy but lighter less padded and lower heel. I have used Zappos (recommended) and they have a great return policy, I returned the 285's this week, replaced with the 200's. Getting two sizes and returning the wrong size is good advise. I tried Merrell glove shoes but the toe box was just to wide in size for my foot. The Keen's I tried fit well but just to big and heavy, felt like boots.
