Any comments or other suggestions. I’m dumping my REI hoddie at 18 Oz. Like always, I get confused sometimes on these purchases. Some mornings camping on the AT or in Michigan, 20 degrees is not uncommon. I do realize your metabolism etc. plays an important part.

John, I own the UL Thermawrap, and my only suggestion to you is get the model with the hood. It adds a lot of versatility to a great piece of gear. I can wear the thermawrap stationary at 10’C with only a t-shirt under it. But a hood would really block more heat loss due to convection conduction radiation and evaporation than a hat would I think. Just this week I ordered the thermawrap pants as a pull-over pant for use when I am not so active. Also, the thermawrap has been a good “dual-use” item I use occasionally for daily life, so I wish I had gotten the black color to blend in more. Sorry so be so wordy..

I have one of the earlier synthetic versions of the jacket; it’s also available in down, and as a vest.

I’m super cold-natured, and it keeps me quite toast as my insulation layer piece. I don’t prefer hoods like the other poster, as I prefer the versatility that multiple pieces allow (hat and neck gaiter can also be used one at a time, or together, elsewhere, such as in my sleeping bag). The collar on the hoodless jacket is velvety soft so you don’t feel the slickness of the outer shell on your neck and, therefore, feel warmer.

I thought at the time of purchase (1 1/2 years or so ago) that the zipper was flimsy, but it hasn’t failed me. I’ve only worn it around camp, so I cannot attest to the jacket’s breathability.

Thanks Brett and Michelle, both comments are very helpful. I did not know that it could come with a hood. That makes a huge difference to me.
