Hello all…

Looking for advice. My old light weight 'water resistant' pants which were terrible and I hated were mercifully torn this weekend. I now have an excuse to replace them.

Thinking of the Patagonia rain shadow pants– but the large are a little too roomy (the waist is not adjustable) and the medium fit well around the waist but are a too little short. Tried them on at MEC. These are about the right price point but I'm wondering if I should just splurge and buy some "fancy pants" fancy pants from arc'teryx or something. I want a shell without insulation that I can wear when it's warmer.

Also, I'm all about layering in the winter, but in the warmer seasons, i like to be…. er, ahem, free.. down below. So the inside needs to be slippery and comfy, not rough and scratchy.

thanks,
d

You could always sew your own rain pants from Momentum 90 fabric. Sort of fairly weatherproof and fairly breathable without being perfect at either. Mine came out at 2.45 ounces.

I would do what Bob says and add a trash bag rain skirt to it that could also be used as a ground sheet. I love my Momentum 90 windshirt and would make the pants if I needed them.

I had been hoping to hear about Momentum 50 at Thru-Hiker. It never seems to materialize in a good color.
