i'm 6'3 185lbs with long arms… I had an XL MH Quark Jacket for the rain, but lost about 30lbs, and now it is way too big on me. The quark is no longer made, and the size large MH stuff is a little tight under my arms. I think Arcteryx and EMS stuff size large stuff fits me the best of any brands I have tried, but I haven't had a chance to try Montbell, Rab, GoLite or any other brands not carried at REI or EMS. Only about 1/3 of jackets i try in large fit me, most are too tight under the arms or the arm length is too short, so i am hesitant to order something online without the chance to try it on first. If the large is too tight, then i am swimming in the XL. I have tried tNF, marmot, patagonia and am not particularly fond of the fit…. anyone have any ideas?
thanks

How about Cabela's? Their stuff comes in tall sizes and they have Gore-Tex paclite jackets for much cheaper than other brands.
I'm about 6'2'' and like buying the Eddie Bauer First Ascent stuff because it comes in size tall and they have rain jackets, but I'd probably go with Cabela's for the rain jacket since I think paclite is better than some of the other materials.
I'd definitely focus on eVENT options from Rab, Westcomb, Montane, etc. I tried all of them and thought they were great. All are manufacturered quite well and have options for long arms and drop tails. The problem is despite meeting the "tall" part of the equasion, I'm not "thin", so they didn't work for my needs. I would also say all were tight under the arms, but I assumed this was because I was too broad and heavy. I have a Rainy River jacket from Cabelas, which is great, but it's definitely not for someone thin. Mine sits in my car because it's too heavy for backpacking. Otherwise, I just use DriDucks. Read the recent article about new fabrics on the horizon for rain gear. You might decide it's better to wait for these new options than to spend money on something now.
my wild things eVent hard shell in large fits me well with sufficient room to layer under as needed. as a climbing shell the sleeves are pretty long so even an orangutan or other species of knuckle-dragger could wear one. their web store is down, but you can place phone orders and much of their stuff is on sale. I've tried the RAB eVent hard shell in both large and xl and neither really fit me well.
i don't know a whole lot about eVent fabrics…. is it lighter/more breathable than paclite? i keep getting conflicting reviews.
I really liked the MH quark as it was some kind of paper thin waterproof material that was great for wearing as sun protection on burning hot southern days/high altitude sun/ and hot rainy season beach showers. I have been to around 25 countries in the past few years so i want something ultra light for my bag, but also very waterproof, something that can keep layers underneath dry, but also be worn on a hot day.
probably asking for too much… i don't care if it is thin and fragile. I feel like the paclite is a bit too heavy to keep in my tiny day pack as an everyday carry around. I loved keeping my 8 ounce quark jacket balled up in a tiny corner of my pack to keep to use as an extra layer when the sun went down or in case of a random shower, i feel like i wouldn't even carry around a paclite unless it was raining and i had to.
any idea when the wild things site will be up? or any other retailers that carry their stuff?
I can't speak for the rest of Rab's lineup, but I buy dress shirts with a 35" sleeve and when wearing my rab drillum jacket, there are literally extra inches of length in the sleeves.
(edit: it's a large, I'm 6'1"'ish, 175 lbs or so)
marmot nano fits long. my friend is 6'4 180 and large fits with room for a fleece and long enough in the sleeves
well i screwed this up and sorry for the long link below….whats the dang formating here!
It all depends on what your definition of thin and light is.
I am 6'6" 195 lbs. I have the previous version of the current Eddie Bauer BC-200 (BC-100) and it is cut slim and long (I have a Large Tall). It fits me extremely well. It is gonna weigh a bit more then some of the other jackets but that is the price of being tall and requiring additional length.
I'm 6'4'' with long arms and about 185 lbs. The Montbell Outpace XL size fits perfectly. It's not too baggy. It's a little heavier at just under 11 oz., but very durable.
