I have an Arcteryx Celeris windshirt and an Atom LT jacket (same maker) and I'm wondering how I should wash/treat these items. I use them primarily for ski touring, and as the ski season is coming to a close I'll be cleaning and storing them for the next 6 months.
I was at the Arcteryx shop, and the sales clerk recommended that I first wash them using Granger's G Cleaner, and once dry that I treat them with Granger's XT (water-based water repellent spray) and toss them into the dryer at low heat to "lock in" the water repellency.
What I am wondering, is if I really should be treating these items for water repellency or not–especially the Atom LT jacket. The jacket is one of my insulation layers, and should precipitation become an issue I just throw a Gore-tex coat on top of that layer. So, breathability/allowing water vapor to pass is paramount. I am concerned that adding the water repellency treatment could "plug the holes" that would otherwise allow water vapor to pass through.
Has anyone used Granger's XT? How did it affect the breathability of the product that you used it on?
Thanks in advance…
