I'm a little suspicious about the price.

I haven't used it for camping but if I recall correctly it has a much lower heat output than typical backpacking fuels and isn't particularly efficient from a weight standpoint.
I believe it was designed to keep food warm, rather than to actually cook anything.
Jon,
“1 gallon of ethanol weighs 6.584 lbs.”
1 gallon of ethanol gel weighs “32.5 lbs.” in the can.
The container would be the size of a 1 gallon metal paint can.
I agree with Bob that the price seems way to low.
How would you repackage it in small enough and light enough containers for use on a backpacking trip?

Newton
It's supposed to be for keeping food warm when you're catering
I've tried it, but it takes forever to boil water.
It's better for keeping something warm.
They're cheap, try them out.
I looked around for mine, but I think I gave it to the Goodwill, trying to de-clutter.
I have some of the standard Sterno aluminum cans that are net weight 7 ounces. Obviously that is not a gallon. Probably closer to one cup. They are good for heating a small pot, but they are not much good for boiling a medium pot of water. Too slow.
Come to think of it, I could probably fashion an empty Sterno can into some MYOG alcohol burner.

I use Greenheat sometimes which is like Sterno. It definitely isn't good at boiling water. It takes about 10 minutes to boil 1 cup which is ok for me for the occasional cup of coffee. However, it does fry spam and heat up canned food very nicely – and without burning. Whether you use it will depend on your cooking style. If you want to give it a try I say go for it – it does work, just not well if you base your food around boiling a lot.
Winning.

It appeared to be as unbearably slow as what I remembered from 1975.

It was slow but a decent solution.
