I'm taking a group up the Yosemite falls trail on 5/14-5/15. Has anyone been up around that area lately? We're trying to decide if we should head towards El Capitan and do an out and back or head east to North Dome and come into the valley past Basket Dome. Thanks for any help.

Snow? Hiking above Yosemite Fall

I doubt that very many hikers have been around there lately. From the top of the falls, if you head east, it will be more open and sunny, and much less snow. If you head west, I think you will be into the snow deep in the woods within a mile or two of the Yosemite Creek Trail. Plus, as you head west, you get back far from the valley rim, so you don't get much scenery until you get all the way over to Eagle Peak (the top of the Three Brothers).
The good news is that the north rim will have less snow than the south rim because of its sun exposure.
