Hi, I want to convert to trail runners. I'm particularly interested in the Inov8 products. Can people suggest where to go to get trail runners in the Bay Area, preferably closer to Oakland? I'm familiar with Transport. Thx.

Can't help you with a local store obviously. Runningwarehouse.com has fairly descent prices and from time to time you can find a coupon for an additional 10 or 15% off.
Zombie Runner!
I've purchased items from Zombie Runner in the past online, they're excellent, probably the most legit trail running shoe/gear store you're ever going to come across- Zombie Runner headquarters is in Palo Alto, CA… I think that's near you right? They stock Inov8, not sure on availability, just know they sell them.

Tried them today – thanks. They didn't have any shoes in my size. I got to try on a women's version that was a little too narrow and a unisex version that was a size too big! But, I can tell that I like them, so the quest will continue. Thanks.
If you know what brand and size and you are patient then you should be able to find low prices with Google shopping. I did this when I bought my 8 pairs for my PCT hike and training runs/hikes. Worked well with Salomons and Sportivas but I knew their sizing and the features.
I buy all mine at Big 5. Do you have those stores in your area?
Trying them on is a must for me. Many brands will work for me. I usually buy them a size or two larger than my actual size because I like them loose. I don't think I've ever paid more than $30-$40 per pair.
My experience has been that there a lot of cheap shoes out there that will work. One of my favorite pair came from Safeway. I've been using trail runners for 20+ years. Gave away my last pair of sturdy boots unused many years ago.
I like all synthetic, no goretex, removable insert and a weight around 1.5 to 2 lbs per pair.
Bought Inov8s from Zappos.com. Roclite 295, ~$100. First pair too small, but Zappos does free shipping both ways, so try on and return no problem. Some other online stores do the same, I believe. Would buy local if I could, but online gives me more options.
depending on size/model, you can get some great deals there if you know what you want. I've been thinking of clearing out their discounted Roclite 320 collection, because I'm liking my one pair a lot so far. We'll see if I can spare the capital to splurge like that, though.
I've had really good luck with runningwarehouse.com
Good selection and free shipping both ways. Try different shoes in your own house and take your time checking them out. I've never had a problem with returns.
