They are supposed to be made with polartec classic fleece…and if they are, that would be a sweet deal. Just picked up 2 myself
http://www.amazon.com/Bula-Micro-Balaclava-Black-Size/dp/B004DDTBQE/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1303505115&sr=8-13

Generally speaking, if you search for "Bula" there are tons of hats, neck gaiters, and winter headwear for great prices (some are unbelievable). We picked up a bula beanie for 5 bucks last week, and used it this weekend. It was supposed to be made from thermalpro fleece but it turned out to be some generic fleece. But for the price, they are great.

Also, they qualify for free 2-day amazon prime shipping. Send me a PM for more info

Hi John, no clue about the balaclava..i'll weigh when it arrives. But the hi-loft beanie found in the link below came out to 1.2oz on my scale.

As usual, great advice and great find. Couldn't resist. Thanks for sharing, Konrad.

I don't remember the exact number, but I think the Bula High Loft Beanie is closer to 2 ounces. It's made from Polartec Thermal Pro. The Bula Micro Balaclava is made from Polartec Classic 100 and is closer to 1 ounce.

Weird Paul, cos the link above I gave to the bula hi-loft beanie was the one I purchased from, and im 100% sure its not authentic polartec thermal pro. That's why im hesistant about the balaclava being authentic polartec classic 100. Don't get me wrong, its a great hat, but it's not polartec. I'm also sure that my scale isn't off by that much, and it was reading 1.2oz for the bula hi-loft beanie linked above. Are we talking about 2 different hats? If you got one that was made from real polartec, it would explain when it was closer to 2 ounces. Mine just didn't have the density of real thermalpro which would explain its lightness. If it makes any difference, we got the graphite color one.

please stop posting deals like this. i have at least 10 winter hats, but i see this sort of thing and something inside of me says "oh my god that is too good of a deal to pass up" and i can't stop myself from ordering. then i have to get something for my gf to make up for the package that i'll be getting in the mail. i am running out of "little gifts just b/c" ideas for her…

Just got mine. It's 100% real polartec classic fleece, and weighs 32grams or 1.12 oz before trimming any of the labels and care tags.

Does classic fleece mean it's warmer than ?????? I have no idea, but I like the weight.

John, IIRC classic is their lightest weight (100 weight), so not warmer than any other fleece they make…its near the bottom of Richards Warmth chart. See here for reference:
chart

I think it's perfect to take the edge off when you're sleeping in sub-freezing temps. For me, it should help me not feel the frost falling on my face after it is knocked off my tent walls during highwinds.

Looks like Paul and I def got the same balaclava, but again, I did not receive the same hi-loft beanie as him. Mine is lighter and not authentic polartec thermal pro, so caveat emptor. I got my beanie in graphite, so maybe they are using different materials for different colors. My balaclava has polartec tags on it, my beanie does not. In comparison to another thermal pro pullover I have, the fleece used in the beanie is less dense than the thermal pro fleece in my pullover.

I don't need another balaclava…but I ordered one anyways. Love the deal.
