In the market for a waterproof camera, I don't even know where to begin. My last camera was a casio exilim, and it served me well for many years before finally dieing. Features like optical zoom were nice, but having to take the camera out of a ziploc bag every time was a hassle and cost some good pictures.

What do you guys recommend?

I have been very happy with with this camera that I purchased on http://www.buydig.com my only dislike to it would be the HD Video part the software it comes with isn't mac compatible at least not that I have encountered. I tried to find software online to play the video but haven't been able to. I haven't given up hope yet though. pictures are amazing though.

I have used a Pentax W20 for a number of years and used it in very wet conditions and even underwater. It has done the job I purchased it for, taking pictures while its raining or while fishing and not worrying about dropping the camera in the river (done that more than once with previous cameras- that got expensive. The picture is a good as any POS, but no where near DSLR but I would take that camera in the environments that I do the W20.
The Pentax W90 looks good also, I think I'll try that one when the W20 wears out.

I know this may not be not exactly lightweight, but i use disposable cameras for my outdoor photography.

I made the switch when i first started out going camping, I went out on a 24 day trip with my friend. With a stroke of bad luck, he ended up accidentally dropping his little point and shoot and wrecked his $150 camera (albeit he could have been a little more careful to his camera). From that experience, i just started to use little disposable cameras whenever i venture out.

One benefit that I have noticed that disposable cameras have over point and shoot cameras would be that i never have to worry about the battery life of my disposable camera. I have noticed that on some of my longer duration trips, most of my friends usually run out of battery life on their camera before their trip is over, sometimes missing some breathtaking scenes. Plus in some respects, I have noticed that disposable cameras are sometimes lighter than some traditional point and shoot cameras. Although, i dont have all the fancy little options that a basic point and shoot camera would have, IMO i believe that they are a little more rugged in my experience.

I recommend the cheap Fujifilm disposable cameras (I think their lighter than the kodak ones). I've also had good experiences with their disposables and underwater disposables.

But please note that if you can get over the "bulkyness" and the "fashion statement" of the underwater disposable cameras their fairly well built and bombproof.

I've had the Panasonic TS1 and TS2 and may get the TS3 at some point. They are not perfect and they don't shoot Raw, but they are pretty durable.

P.S. Kevin, you might try shooting HD 720 motion jpeg. The AVCHD and Lite are sort of a pain to work with, with my current software.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I just stumbled upon a sale on a Casio Exilim EX-G1 at costo for $150 (average price on ebay was $180). I was really happy with my last casio, lasted 5 years and many trips, including some short falls onto rocks and it had really good battery life, so I think for the price I cant go wrong.

Found a comprehensive comparison of a bunch of waterproof cameras, including a couple Pentax's and the Panisonic TS1 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterproofgroup/)both did really well
