To what does the term "returns" refer?

Not sure he's making some specific point, other than the jacket wasn't made for a bit, and now it's being made again. And it seems like a pretty nice jacket.

uhhhh the weight is right there in his post. "Returns" as in it was probably discontinued but is now back. Seemed pretty clear to me. I'm amazed at the weight given that it has a full length zipper, dual zippered pockets, and an adjustable hood. Pertex Endurance is some pretty water resistant stuff IIRC

I used to have a Jackorack from way back. Very nice piece with huge pit zips, excellent hood and full coverage in EPIC. Very weather resistant and as I recall it weighed in at just under 7oz.

for real a wind jacket has pitzips????

I need to check out that Daybreak jacket. It sounds to good to believe. I wish it came with a hood. I brought my MB UL down inner parka to work with me today. I'll weigh it on their scale and then weigh their new Daybreak. I know the Daybreak has no hood so it's not a 100% comparison.

Here's what is advertised. I'll let you know what the scale says. I'll use my MB stuff sack with both.

MB UL down inner parka has 2.5 oz of 800 fill @ 9.0 oz total weight.
The new Daybreak has 3.1 oz of 850 fill @ 7.5 oz total weight……wow!

At the weight they have listed, I would be VERY impressed if it had pit zips but I rather doubt it. For a fee I am sure they would put them in.

@John: Better to compare the MB UL Down Inner Jacket than the Parka.

Back to the Jackorack: Looks nice! The next time I need a windshirt, I might have them create a half-zip version for me.

@Stephan….I agree 100%. Unfortunately I don't own one without the hood.

I'll also see if the Jackorack has pit zips and check out the sizing.

The Jackorack was true to its advertised weight at 3.7 oz. The new Jackorack does not have pit zips. The jacket I weighed was a medium and was true to its size…..a perfect fit for me. Very well made piece. The pocket zippers were waterproof.

The day breaker down jacket was 8.3 oz. I weighed 2 mediums twicw and got the 8.3 oz measurement. At the store they advertise 8 1/2 oz's. I believe they advertise 7.5 oz on their website. Regardless this is a great jacket. We're talking 3.1 oz of 850. The Montbell UL down inner weighs 7.3 oz with 2.1 oz of 800. I would buy the FF Daybreak over the Montbell UL Down Inner. That extra ounce would provide a great deal of extra warmth.

The Jackorack is probably the lightest full feature (2 pockets) and full zip windbreaker I've seen–Nice work on their part. FWIW I've never required pit zips on a windshirt, especially if it already has a full zipper. But man is the price steep…if for some forsaken reason I feel compelled to drop 145 on a windshirt, this one would have my vote if I were looking at weight/features alone. Does anyone know how Pertex Endurance UL performs? It's the stuff they use at the foot and head end of golite quilts, to give them water resistence, but I'm unsure of the CFM/breathability/

The daybreak looks stellar too and competitively priced for its warmth.

@John: Thanks for checking these out. Perhaps a typo on their website then? I was going to add a MontBell jacket to my stable for the upcoming mountain season, but for near the same price, I think the Daybreak jacket might be the winner. It's definitely competitively priced (hardly more than First Ascent's Down Sweater!).

@Konrad: GoLite advertises Pertex Shield, not Endurance UL.

Regardless, Pertex Endurance is a 1.3oz WP/B fabric that I've seen before – the UL version looks new. At such a feathery weight, it can't be WP/B, right???
