thanks
unfortunately the options with blends appear to be rather limited, hopefully more manufacturers will catch on

I live in South Florida with a banana tree in my backyard. I can not tolerate merino wool here. I have tried. Synthetics or cotton for me. I manage stink by washing my clothes.
^ was that w/ the 150 g/m2 (or lighter) stuff?
thanks
I don't know the weight of the wool shirts I have tried but I am pretty sure they were not that light weight.
yeah 150 is pretty light, t-shirt weighs weigh 4 oz or less
Alright gentlemen, I'm going to hook you up. I happen to be the perfect product tester for lightweight, wicking gear needed for outdoor life in the tropics. I live in Hawaii, I sweat like a fat man, I'm actually a little fat, and I love being outside! I haven't seen it mentioned here, but lululemon (Canadian-founded yoga apparel) sells my absolute favorite shirts. They are lightweight, comfortable, and has silver thread sewn into the fabric to keep it from smelling. I thought it was a gimmic, but trust me, it works.
6pm has wool 2 T-shirts on sale in XL in black for $39
http://www.6pm.com/patagonia-mens-merino-2-t-shirt-black
and this seller on ebay has a wool 2 T-shirt in XL blue for $39
Wool 2 is %70 wool, %30 synth. I have a silver infused new balance shirt which does seem to help with the stench, but I still prefer pat wool 2 for backpacking.
cheers.
A light synthetic T would be ideal for hot/humid conditions in my experience (Hawaii), though I could see using my Smartwool as an insulation layer for camp.
I do plan on taking a mid weight merino top as a insulating layer for evenings, I'm pretty I'll take a button up long sleeve syn (leaning towards the craghopper currently) and a couple of t-shirts- this is where is the confusion/quandary remains :)
I have pretty decent experience with high heat, but have no experience w/ humidity which I know changes the game significantly
if syn would outperform the light merino significantly then I'd put up w/ a little more smell (well someone else would in actuality :))
I still think a 50:50, 60:40, 40:60-ish mix would be a pretty good choice
