I just ordered from Ace Hardware online and directed that my order be delivered to my local Ace Hardware store. This delivery option got me free shipping and I pass right by this location daily.

I ordered a window insulation kit that I believe to be the same material as a polycro ground sheet for $9.99 + .40 cents tax, $10.39 total.

It is 70 square feet and 84″ wide x 120″ long. There are other sizes available, 42″ x 62″ and 62″ x 252″. Prices are $4.49 and $10.99 respectively.

If this pans out it will be perfect as an ultralight groundsheet for my tarp.;-)

Going to hone depot to check it out. I got this idea from an earlier thread "2.5 ounce ground cloth". I think that's the name.

Roberto,

You may not be able to find it in the store.

I shopped around on the web at Home Depot, True Value and Ace Hardware. I did not try Lowes. I was only able to find it online.

However if you are lucky enough to find it in the store it will look like this image.

It is not as large but I believe that it is the same material as what I ordered.

Good luck.

If you got to Home Depot, the film is in with the weatherstrip supplies. I paid $6.49 for a 62"x210" package.

Hi Dale,

I guess it's a location/season/area thing. Whenever I did an online in store availability inquiry I got a Not Available In Store message/response.

I guess the Pacific Northwest uses a lot more window insulation kits more often than we do down in Naw'lins;-)

I guess I should have gone shelfwacking to see if my online information was correct.

"I paid $6.49 for a 62"x210" package".

Great price for a very usable size.

Here in buffalo I see these kits in Dollar General, with whole shelf-fuls in all the hardware stores. For some weird reason I still haven't picked any up.

My local Walmart has Duck window insulation kits on clearance right now. A 62" x 420" kit is $5. It includes 2 sheets that are 62" x 210", a couple 30yd rolls of double sided tape and 12 alcohol wipes. YMMV of course, but I would check out your local Walmart to see if they also have these on clearance.

I picked up a few of these window insulation kits a few months back after a similar thread posting.

I wasn't able to find them in store at my local Home Depot or Do It Best Home Improvement Center, but I was able to find them at my local Ace True Value here in Santa Barbara, CA. I'd imagine they're a seasonal item for sunny southern CA and will be off the shelfs soon if not already.

I can't remember the exact dimensions, but the bigs ones which were sized for a typical sliding glass door were big enough to split into about three generous bivy ground cloths. I think they were around $7/ package.

I've used the same piece for three short trips so far and it's holding up fine.

You won't find it in our area Nicholas. I asked around and its meant for cold weather to basically add extra window insulation in the winter so none of the cold comes via the windows. How ever you can most likely order it online from Ace or Home Depot or Lowes and have it delivered to the store.

Kevin,

I DID find them in the Home Improvement Center (ACE) here in SB. They were in with the screen doors and screen door replacement stuff.

I don't know if they're still there but they were about 2 months ago when I bought some.
