Trekking poles ?

on how rough the terrain is and how heavy yr load is

the rougher (vertical) and heavier .., the more useful it is

note that poles are great in an emergency in the not unknown event someone twists something above the treeline … have had that happen a few times and ive lent my poles for that person to get down … or at worst make a splint

im sure they could have crawled down themselves eventually though …

but then stuff like that never happens in the UL world ;)

Trekking poles (duh)
Shelter support
Fishing pole
Potty trowel of sorts
Splint (adjustable poles better for this)
Travois in case my dog gets hurt–it works, except that that he won't stay on it!
As mentioned, to assist self-evacuating in case of sprains (not fractures)

Forgot one–jam them into the ground, lean your pack against them, and you have a backrest! Well, at least if you don't wiggle around too much….
