I'm searching Craigslist this am and find a new posting for a Camp 7 Down Bag for $75. I call and ask; yes, it's really clean, used on one hunting trip, always stored in a large cotton bag. "Will you take $50?", I ask. "Well, it was over $200 new, so I have to get $60." OK I say. I go to take a look. It's in PERFECT condition – the guy still has the original storage bag, original stuff sack, small patch of extra material for repairs and, are you ready for this, the TAG!!! The original, Camp 7 tag with the Validation Card attached!!! Holy super-score, Batman!

This thing is amazing. It has to be close to 40 years old and it looks brand new. -5 rating, beautiful shinny blue exterior, size large (6'6"), with KenDon FR ripstop and Dupont ZePel finish. Way ahead of its time. Still a fabulous bag. Crazy.

Good work. Although I am a fan of the ultralight gear there will always be a place in my heart (and gear closet) for older vintage gear.

Unfortunately, my heart is so big, my gear closet is now a room in my basement. . . . !! Plus, I'll probably pass this on to one of my Scouts or my kids.

Sounds like a the model Camp 7, it was rated at 0 degrees, 3lbs. 15 oz.

They were ahead of their time, the WM of sleeping bags back then. I have two the -5 degree North Col and the 25 degree Arete. Got the storage sacks, tags etc. too. But they have been used well and now I lend them out to folks who don't have a good bag yet.

One is 39 years old the other 37. Good bags should last a long time and are a good investment IMHO. Great score!

It's the North Col model, long. 3.4 lbs. I just can't believe it's literally as good as new. I showed it to my daughter and she said, "I think I'll use that one . . . " Smart girl, that one. Not the greatest photos, but you get the idea.

Interesting it is blue. Back when I was selling them at a backpacking shop they were all purple like mine. This could be one of the first ones.

Possibly one of the first? The plot thickens . . . ! The photos don't show it too well but it's super-shiny, almost like vinyl.

Nice score on a original camp 7 sleeping bag before they became a sport chalet in house brand. . With sport chalet they had different color sleeping bags.
Toward the end around early 90's they separated from Sports Chalet and made some custom packs and sleeping bags. They design a synthetic mummy sleeping bag called the hot tub it was unique it had a flat bottom with 12 inch raised sides like a tub that surrounds you and a flat top with two half zipper one on each side.

Camp 7 made me a 45 liter custom panel loader with full length top zippered flat bellowed side pockets on each side with a snap hook at the top of the pocket to hold MSR dromedary bags for water for desert hiking he said his adventure racing team athletes were using this style of pocket to hold their water bladders.
The pack had these detachable pockets that fasten to the front of the pack kind of like light weight molle clips with metal trigldes on the front of the pack and four loop locks on the pockets. The front held 6 zippered pockets 2 rows for three pockets in different sizes with them color coded like red for example for first aid pocket,Green ,navy blue and other colors in different sizes.

I went up to their Santa Ana ,Ca. factory to get measured for the pack had it in about 2 weeks time. I gave it to my brother after a few years use and he some how lost or sold it he said when I asked for it back last year. He still has a Camp 7 Gorilla backpack I gave him he still use it because it bomber high volume pack that is super comfortable to carry heavy loads.
Camp 7 had a small catalog and it showed the gorilla pack with a slogan that said put a gorilla on your back. I guess it a reference to having a 800 pound gorilla on your back.
