I'm in need of some new hiking shorts for an AT thru hike. I'd prefer they had at least one pocket. And don't go over my knees. I'm ok with lengths between mid thigh and my knees though. I'd like something to help prevent chaffing.

Thanks for any of your suggestions

The lighter the better! If you pack has hipbelt pockets on it, you shouldn't need pockets in your shorts. I used a pair of TNF when I thrued the AT and would use them again without question.

I like the MH Canyon short. Probably too heavy for a thru hike, but they work well for me. I like having one or two pockets as well. I don't have my pack on 24/7, and use my hipbelt pockets for other stuff anyway.

Like Peter, I used a pair of TNF (Flight Series if I remember correclty) shorts most of the way. The had an integrated brief that I found to be more comfortable than a mesh inner or separate boxers which I also tried. About mid-thigh with two hand pockets and a diagonal thigh zip pocket. Still going strong.
