I'm looking into a 3 person shelter and am leaning towards the Oware 10x10x6' pyramid tarp (26oz). If I decide to get it I'd also like to get an inner net, but not sure what size to get. I could just make it simple and get the Bearpaw PyraNet 3 (17oz), but what I don't like about that is there's only one door and the person sleeping farthest from it would have to climb over 2 people if they needed to get out. So that has me thinking of getting a modified PyraNet 2 (14oz) that would go on one half of the pyramid, leaving the other half open. Then the third person could utilize the open half with a bug bivy or something similar or just a ground sheet. The modification I had in mind was primarily to move the apex to one side rather than in the center so it would fit better in one half of the pyramid….so one wall would be straight up and down and the opposite wall would be on more of an angle than the regular PyraNet 2. Does this seem reasonable? Anything I'm overlooking? Any other options you would recommend?

I would contact John at Bear Paw with your request. I had him make me a custom inner for a Golite Shangrila 3 that was unlike anything available. In my case I sent him adetailed request with finished dimensions. He is fast, reasonably priced, and has great customer service.

Yep, bearpaw seems like the right choice. I contacted John on Friday and now I just need to get back to him with some dimensions. I guess that's the part I'm still trying to figure out.

Is there a standard amount of space that is recommend to leave between the inner net and the tarp itself.

Why not just get the perimeter mesh netting and throw in a tyek floor?

Oware pyramid

I like it.

That's definitely another good option to consider. Do you know what the weight of the netting and floor are? And that picture makes the tarp look huge. How often do you have problems finding a campsite big enough?

28oz with netting.

I have used this shelter primarily in the boundary waters an other areas in mn, so not too hard finding space for it, have to go over some roots or rocks once in a while, I can imagine it is much harder in an alpine environment, as I like in washington now, i will be finding out soon.

I used this last year in the boundary waters on a hike/paddle trip where the mosquitos are serious as can be with two other people who had never slept in a floorless shelter and everyone was happy, especially me because i was carrying it on the hike. We used a hammock and some polycro for ground cloths which was kind of a pain. Got to use a bigger tarp for a floor one night while canoing and it was luxurious.

Here are a couple more pictures.Oware tarpOware tarpOware tarp

Oh and FYI, this is the 9×9 Oware
