Hi folks,

Can anyone recommend a half inner to go with a Golite Shangri La 3

Thanks,

Stephen

Are you asking about the floor for the sl-3? I have the floor with mine, but it weighs as much as the sl-3 does. You could save about a pound by using a polycro ground sheet.

SMD serenity net tent works well

I'm sure bearpaw could custom make something that would look like it was mad for the SL3

Hi folks,

My apologies I should of mentioned it was an inner with bug protection I was intersted in. I will check out the Six Moon Designs site.

Cheers,

Stephen

Depends on how much head room you need, but you could hang the Pyra Net 1 inside pretty easily. It'd be more of a one-third inner, but it's pretty dang light- around 8 oz IIRC for the standard 30D silnylon floor. Mine has a 70D silnylon floor and weighs 12.4 oz w/ stuff sack. I imagine Bear Paw could make something that filled in the SL-3 a bit more, having the same height as the standard nest and a 30D floor that weighed aroun 16 oz.

I would recommend contacting John at Bear Paw. If you look under the custom section of his site you will find two examples. One is a true 1/2 inner tent and the other is more like a 3/4 and it is one that he made for me.

There are a number of "stock" options as well. MLD solo inner, SMD Serenity, Bear Paw's Pyra Net 1, and other similar items. I opted for a custom since I didn't want all net and wanted a higher peak and more floor space. The inner he made for me sleeps two and gear, provides a covered vestibule, and weighs 24.1oz including all the straps, ties, and shock cords. This will be primarily a winter/fringe season set-up for 2.

I am making the transition from full tents to tarps/pyramid shelters. This weekend I will be giving the poncho tarp bivy a try and we are expecting snow/rain.

Hi All,

Thanks for the great suggestions.
I plan to use the Sl3 solo so looking for the lightest possible bug inner.

Hi John,

That's interesting you mention Ookworks , I know the Designer am probably going to buy his 4 season one as I do most of my hiking in the UK.

Cheers,

Stephen

The lightest would be the MLD solo or SMD serenity. Half the weight of the Ookworks. Another choice would be using a bivy with mesh like the katabatic bristlecone, tigoat ptarmigan or MLD offerings.

The Ookworks will give you greater space and comfort for the weight, be more customised to the SL3 and offer a choice of a ripstop rather than mesh inner if that's your preference, but at a weight penalty.

BearPaws also do tremendous custom work and would also make you up a custom inner to pretty much your own spec (as no doubt would Ookworks who are UK based – if you want to support your friendly local cottage gear-makers).

Thanks Fred for that post. Anyone looking for something similar might want to, in consideration that those products are not available here at a reasonable cost, look for a good deal on a nest or floor and cut it up to match either of those designs. These are really clean and sharp looking attachments.
