I am interested in making some trekking pole out of carbon and playing around with the idea of making them adaptable to use with my tent poles. I couldnt find much info doing a quick search of this forum, but I know I have seen this topic bouncing around. Any help related to:
Where to purchase carbon poles?
How to work with carbon poles?
Parts and accessories for making trekking poles and tent poles?
Any examples of projects like this? Thanks for the help.

http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/make_your_own_gear_carbon_fiber_trekking_poles.htmlMar 23, 2011 at 12:42 pm #1713507Jason Klass (geartalkwithjasonklass.com) did a video on making your own poles. He used carbon fiber golf club shafts. I cant remember if he cannibalized old clubs or purchased replacement shafts. Anyway, you should be able to search his site to find the video.
I use Gossamer Gear Lightrek IV's. 4 oz. (each) adjustable poles. They are wicked light and make good tent poles too if you decide to buy instead of make.
Mar 23, 2011 at 1:15 pm #1713528+1 on the articles posted above. I made a pair of trekking poles that i use with my tarp that were made from used golf club shafts, each less than 3oz. I got the shafts by asking the repairs guy at the local golf shop. They ended up being about 110cm long which may be too short for taller people. I got regular leki pole tips from REI and the eva grips from gossamergear.
