Looking through Backpacker Gear Guide and saw Pacific Outdoors Peak Elite AC Pad that weighs 14oz and goes for $80. Anyone use this? Anyone know where to get one?

Thanks

Several have been waiting. I think someone here said it was in production over a month ago. They must have a very slow heat sealer. It doesn't seem like many people carry POE, but Moontrail has a couple POE pads and used to have more.

I just rec'd an email from POE about when they would be available, and they said it was backordered and should be available by summer!! I really need something before then! They can be had from the UK, but very pricey going that way. Shipped 71.33 british pounds = 115.oo USD

I'm waiting, too. British blogs last fall were saying January. I emailed POE in February and the answer was late March. Still waiting….

I really don't need it until late July, but was hoping to test it in freezing temps. I gather this gizmo is made in the UK?

"Brand new (Fall 2010) version of this pad. 3 season. Size is 20x48x2.5, weight is 10.75 oz, close to 12 oz with stuff sack and repair kit , R-value is between 2-4. $50 shipped. PayPal. Bought 2 only need 1. PM with any questions.
Thanks"

Not sure if this fits your needs, or not, but it is for sale on this site by Adam C. It is the 3/4 length, if that works or not.

Well, I guess they gave up their chance to be the new sweetheart pad for thru hikers this year.

I was waiting and waiting so I went out and bought the Ether which has exactly the same specs but without the magic coating. I used it the last two weekends and I love it from a comfort standpoint. But, I'm not sure what POE is thinking…. to discontinue a product for another that is delayed for months. But I won't be losing sleep over it, last years model is comfy!!!!

I don't know how POE stays in business when they're perennially out of stock. I have a POE pad that I started recommending to people until I found it impossible to buy anywhere online.

It seems a few other companies are having issues with product deployment and stocking. The Nemo Zor won 'best in show' (that's a great movie too, but I digress…) and looks to be very good. It also has the low price tag unlike the Exped UL7 – which is mighty comfy…. The problem with the Zor is that it's "out of stock" at many places…

When a company used to a particular level of sales releases a product which hits a sweet spot in the market, wins a bunch of accolades, etc they find themselves selling out. Generally makes more sense for a business to do a more conservative first run of a new product than for them to make 10x what they had been selling of the product it’s replacing. Nothing new there. Nothing new there. Fortunately, there are a lot of options out there- if you’re willing to pay more, there is always the NeoAir, Exped UL7, or Kooka Bay.

Looks like Amazon has a few in stock of the Medium (20×66″) in violet.

Also looks like the Nemo Zor is in stock here.

I spoke to POE today and they verified that the Peak Elite AC will be available as of end of April or the beginning of May. I guess we are all waiting in anticipation! I hope this helps.

The Nemo Zor is only 1" thick per the specs on the Nemo website. It would not work for those of us who have to have a 2.5" pad for even minimal comfort!

I just hope that POE gets their act together before I start my long trips in July. If not, I'll just have to suck up the extra 6 oz. in my old POE Insulmat Max Thermo. Interestingly, I asked a couple of well-known online gear dealers if they were going to carry it, and they said no because POE seems to have a problem keeping its dealers supplied.

I've tried the NeoAir and found it very uncomfortable, ditto the 8-tube BA mats. I do have an inquiry in to Bender at Kooka Bay, and will go that route if he can give me what I'm looking for.

Mary – don't mean to discourage you from trying a Kooka Bay pad as I love mine… But if you find find the vertical baffles of the BA pads to be comfortable I don't think you'll like the Kooka Bay pads, either. I haven't had a BA pad myself, but I do have a POE of similar design and it feels very similar to my Kooka Bay pad.

I've got the new Exped Synmat UL on order which should arrive any day. 16oz with a 3.1R-value, insulated, and 2.5" thickness. Built in pump as well.

I am tired of waiting! Bender of Kooka Bay will do a 6-tube pad for me, 3.5" thick, R5 Climashield! I'm just waiting for a final quote before I order. I am going to sleep really well this summer!

Ordered the women's version 66" 15oz, off Amazon. It was hit and miss; once it was available, then not, then yes. 65.90, free ship, no tax. AND, 13.9oz excluding stuff sack and repair kit :D

I just received mine in the mail today. To my big surprise, it's actually 3oz less than specified. It's super comfy and instantly my favorite among ultralight pads – much better then Neo, Gossamer Gear, etc. This is going to be a short post because I would wholeheartedly recommend getting this one. 2/3 length @ 8.875oz.

Ryan Jordan and BPL staff! Please do a review of this pad – you will not be dissapointed. Superb service from these guys as well.

I bought 2 the other week (must be easier to come by over here in the UK). I got my full length one, and for the mrs I bought the women's specific one. Not had a chance to fully test them out yet other than on the kitchen floor. Feel pretty comfortable. Maybe a little on the short side. I'm 6'1" and certainly wouldn't want it any shorter. I'm also not convinced by the lack of a 1 way valve. It works fine, but feel the valve should be a little fancier. Other than that, I'm certainly happy with them. :)
