I'm looking for a pack to carry around 20lbs with a ventilated suspension system. I could not really find too many reviews from people who used the Stratos 36 for backpacking. Most seem to regard it as a very large capacity daypack. Anybody here have one and care to comment? I am mainly wondering about the volume and weight carrying capacity.

Thought I'd give some feedback

1st: I'm a Jampack guy myself, but for those heavier loads….

The Stratos 36 rocks!

I can easily pack my gear and a BV 500 or 450 bear bin inside (medium sized Stratos).

The load bearing is very good IMO, I have tested the pack from 15lb load to 55lbs. Incredibly comfortable for loads up to 35lbs. from 40lbs to 55lbs I was comfortable as well, but I am used to carrying those load weights (Up to 90lbs) in a frameless climbing haulpack…and I'm a pretty small guy.

Not a big fan of all the compartments, but so far it's growing on me. The stash and go for the trekking poles is very useful.

I'll be honest, the extra 1lb of weight for the frame and padded straps and hipbelt = increased comfort, increased weight load, and ability to carry a bear bin without it poking my back…is starting to sway me away from my old Jam!!!

Will write a more detailed report soon.

cheers!
