It's a black out here in Europe now, answers will be served for breakfast.

Mar 3, 2011 at 5:28 am #1703822Hi Eric,
I do not think that I have made any claim of being the "best", but this is the conclusion that James has come to, so I just try ed to put the reasons why, on the table for him.
The hand test, is the simplest way to test (read: get a personal feeling)of the insulation capacity, and this has nothing to do about moisture, a thing any down specialist can do at any time.
At the saucing, the quality judgement is manual, and this follows the whole production procedure, until the finished products leave the down factory.
I am afraid, that the current filling power norm can not, capture the essentials (structure)but only measure, the capacity of a quality to resist a pressure, and this is a figure of ex 650 cuin.
And Eric, just between you and me, I am not trying to sell you anything, just to tell you what I know.
In what the EN 13537 norm concerns: The idea is in Principe correct, but it will only be credible, once all mannikin's are standard, and that any EN 13537 claim can only be done if test doc are published.
Apr 4, 2011 at 2:13 pm #1719919Hi guys,
Iv been reading this thread for a while now, and its just getting so ridiculous
From what i gather, this jacket is a fine piece, articulated, using the highest quality materials and down.
Bottom line is: If you like it, buy it. If you dont like it…well, dont buy it.
but dont hack into Neils….he has spent so long designing such a fine jacket, he doesnt need an average bunch of punters like us tearing into him and criticizing him on a product they have never even seen or tried on.When everyone starts comparing the sources of down and quality of materials to the degree as has been done here, it just like saying "the individual that certified the tolerances on the cnc machine used in the creation of the pistons in my Porsche is better thans yours"
This is a professional jacket, for professional use. Most of us on this forum will never climb a technical 6500m+ peak like Changabang, let alone tested the Immelman in such conditions.
Most people who have the mentality required to climb such things will have the decency to vent their constructive criticism directly to Neils, not on a forum. We are mostly backpackers here, we trodge, we walk. Sure this jacket probably isnt suited for you, i guess its like trying to take a ferrari on the streets…not ideal.
But if you do climb, ok, its another very good option to a FF/WM jacket. If you are really scared about every ounce of weight, then…go to the toilet before you climb.Honestly, i would love to see this jacket myself, but im in Australia, so we dont have any Valandre dealers here. Damn. Neils am i wrong about this?
(im looking for a technical climbing jacket for winter climbing in NZ)Keep designing gear Neils! Its great stuff. Gerlinde/Edanur and the others would agree!
cheers guys,
Siggy
ps: just my 2 cents.
Apr 4, 2011 at 2:28 pm #1719926were not the ones claiming more water resistant down, "ground breaking" jackets, or rating our bags on our site at the extreme rating (which i dont think any other reputable manuf does anymore) …
claim something extraordinary … be prepared to prove it
or we could go back to the good old days where wed believe any claim spewing out from marketing departments …
note that it was a RETAILER that came and made a post expressly to show the product … if youre going to advertise something … be prepared to answer questions …
