I've been wanting one for non-UL trips, for the luxury of the vestibule in the rainy Pacific Northwest, and may have the chance to get one secondhand. It's the 3-season version that supposedly weighs a bit over 5 pounds (minimum). Have read reviews in other forums, but just wondering if anyone here has used one and how that went for you. I'd be sleeping in it with another person, so either two "average" sized women or an "average" man + woman (whatever "average" means).
Also I haven't been able to find a reliable figure of the actual widths of the inside tent body, so if anyone have those magic numbers, that would be a bonus!
Thanks for your thoughts!

Emily,
I have the 1997 Quest catalog, but it gives only one dimension for each measurement, and does not distinguish between inner and outer. Hope someone with one will measure it for you.
I have one, but I believe its from 1994 or so. They made a couple different models of these so let me know if this is the one you need measurements for. Mine is gray and purple in color.
Though mine is retired after 15 good years, I'm 6'3" and its plenty roomy alone, great for a man/woman couple, and even once shared space with myself and 2 shorter girls (friends haha). I have shared with another average sized guy but it was a bit close since its not all that tall. Hetero males also seem to get a bit awkward in a mostly lay down only environment… unless its really raining :) but size wise it was plenty big for 2 large guys.
I have had one since about '96 and still use it to this day. It is one of my favorite tents. The vestibule is huge. I have shared with my girlfriends in the past, male friends on hiking trips. Is is close with another guy, but you can fit all your gear inside, and have lots of room. It is almost a freestanding, but not quite. Good ventilation. I also have a Walrus Swift for solo, that I like, but is a bit tight. I am 6'1" 270 lb with a 52" chest, so I'm broad shouldered, which means I need lots of room. This tent, Praying Mantis fits the bill. Hope this helps.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts, it's been very helpful.
I've now been inspired to post a WTB ad here in the gear swap before buying it from the other place, so if any of you are looking to get rid of yours, feel free to let me know.
Thanks again!
Sorry to dredge up a super old post, but I wanted to see if anybody here on BPL had ever heard of my crazy praying mantis tent. I’ve had this thing since high school (I’m 37 now) and it’s one of the best tents I’ve ever had. Not BPL material by any means though. I have the 4S version which I bought here in TX and really don’t know why. I never did see temps less than 20 degrees in it. Although it was nice and warm on my winter trip to Philmont if I recall. Great tent, but I haven’t even unrolled it out of the sack in 10 years. I need to set it up and clean it up I guess. Is there a market for these things?
I vaguely remember the Quest Preying Mantis. I don’t believe ever selling Quest tents at REI back then, but we did get folks coming in asking about it. Some of us employees thought that it was pretty cool, especially the integrated vestibule, but appeared a wee bit complicated for the average person to set up (or perhaps at dusk in a bad storm.)
You will definitely find a market for it on Ebay. Just note it as “vintage” so it will attract collectors. Here’s one that was sold back in July:
