Sweet, thanks for the heads up. Just picked up an Ex Light Down Vest size large for $89.99. Free shipping too!

was looking to the vest sizing, I'm a large normally, although my down jacket is an xl just in case I layer it thick!! but the vest is only available in xl, and I know I've heard it said that MB runs smaller, just wondering if anyone had a vest???

the main page shows the sale price but when you click on the item it shows the regular price, regular price in the cart too.

And now its gone, i think they put the prices on the wrong items, dang.

Bent Gate has done this before…I got a new GoLite RS 1+ Season Quilt (long) for $15 one time from them because the web guy messed up the prices.

PostedFeb 3, 2011 at 6:07 pm

That same web guy called me and said "I'm really sorry but we forgot to update or web page this morning and we no longer have that item." BUT DON'T WORRY! I'll give you 15% off any item in the store. What a crock! Did this happen to anyone else? I think on-line stores should be held accountable for their own website content.

Do everybody a favor and relate your experience at Reseller Ratings. Maybe Trailspace too if possible. Someday I hope there is the equivalent of The Garden Watchdog at Dave's Gardens. This is a venue that lists the top rated sellers as well as all positive or negative transactions with other sellers. It catches things like corporate buy outs that change businesses overnight . It levels the playing field with seller's who charge you immediately and then keep you hanging on. There is a lot of similarity between gardening and backpacking as they are both seasonal and time frames can be critical. And a system like this can amplify the sales of good sellers. Believe it or not this is one reason I like Ebay . Feedback tells a tale both good and bad -better than nothing.

I've ordered from Bent Gate plenty of times, they are a great site and usually have better prices than most of the major sites and retailers… Don't condemn the guy for a mistake probably made by an employee, there is no need for a vigilante party here. Everyone makes mistakes, try not to take it personal is all I can say…

Yes, lots of web-based companies make web-based mistakes, and you will not have much luck trying to get them to sell you something that they do not have anymore. They can try to make it up to you with some special discount on something else. You can encourage them to try harder with a better discount.

Real time postings of good previous solutions to situations like this are just what everybody wants and needs. Mistakes are just mistakes. I remember how hard it was to find a Montbell deal last year with price matching etc. BPL is a hungry crowd for smaller companies and UL stuff. It is also the end of the season for sellers as new stuff comes in. Good for both parties if you have any money after the Holidays..

Like I said in a few posts above, I too had a similar experience with Bent Gate Mountaineering concerning a GoLite quilt. When I came across it on the site it was marked down to $15. I finally decided to pull the trigger and about 10 minutes later the price was corrected on the site, $99. Keeping in mind this was a little after 11 at night.

The next day I got an email from a manager explaining that the sale price was a mistake and that they couldn't sell it to me for that price, but they did offer to sell it to me at their price though. Long story short, the next day the owner called me and they let me have the quilt for the original purchase price. He also explained to me that the guy that does their website had made a mistake when posting sale prices, and that it wasn't the first time.

Looks like they are still having problems with the web guy?

I have also made another purchase from them and it all went smooth as butter. Good company, but looks like the web guy needs to pay closer attention… Also, it may be a good idea to call and check on the price if it seems to good, or at least the inventory.

Chad, you should mention the emails that you and I both sent to Bent Gate when that ordeal happened.

Definitely a long story with that situation, but without those emails I highly, highly doubt you'd have gotten anything more than a small discount on that quilt. Truth be told though, my email to the BGM president was pretty scathing.

Regarding sizing on the Ex-Light vest, it does run a bit small. Most noticeably, the vest runs several inches shorter in the torso than mediums from other companies. For comparison, my First Ascent Downlight vest (also a medium) is probably 3-4" longer, but that vest is a fairly long cut. I would size up on the Ex Light vest if possible, but if you can't and you're okay with a shorter cut then it'll be fine. The room in the torso (ie. girth) is fairly normal.

my scathing letter must of not have been scathing enough- I ended up canceling my order (received a call two days after I placed my order there was a "mistake")

I went to the site, price was marked down, I was able to add it to my cart and check out, entered my billing info (ie, credit card) and clicked submit, thats when the ish hit the fan…
It told me the price had changed and the new pice was added to my cart, talk about bait and swith techniques!!! ARGHHHH!
