This summer I plan to attempt a hike on the Appalachian trail. I can't start my hike until around June 8 and only have to around August 13 because of school and work, but I have a free flight to Maine so still want to just hike what I can going SOBO.

This list is still a little rough, so if I seem to have forgotten something, fill me in. And I have some questions about parts of it as well. Some of the weights are estimations, and I would guess a bit high I think. I've never hiked anywhere but in the South around Georgia and NC. I was thinking about making a light synthetic quilt, like 40*, for the trip, but would that be warm enough with the clothes and gear I have listed there for the areas farther north? Also, would some sort of bug netting be a good decision for that time of year? And does anyone have suggestions on a good shoe to choose for this for someone with fairly high arches? Any suggestions on the other gear on the list is much appreciated as well. Thanks for any input.
