Going to be buying a new pair of shoes soon, my Salomon XA Pro's are about to die. These were my first pair of XA Pros and I loved them, but want to try on a few other things also. I tried on the La Sportiva Wildcats and they felt good on the store, but wasn't able to try on the Raptors. Can anybody with experience tell me the difference in the 2? And how they compare to the XA Pro's? I don't know a ton about footwear, but it seemed to me that my Salomons have more PU in the midsole whereas the Wildcats were almost all EVA. Will that significantly affect durability?

PU=Durability
EVA=Cushioning
Yeah, so the Salomons should be more durable, right?
Probably, but that doesn't mean the La Sportivas aren't durable enough. I know Skurka used them, I am not sure how many pairs he went through though.
The Wildcat and Raptor feel almost identical except that the Wildcat has much more cushion, and as a consquence much less flex. The only other difference is that think that the Raptor were a little bit more snug on my foot. Both good shoes.
I wrote this in another thread… The wildcats are plenty durable IMO.
First pair lasted only 450 miles before complete blow out. The mesh blew out on the bottom seam on both sides of the shoe. I attribute it to improperly fitted superfeet insoles and general rot from three weeks of soaked feet. All other pairs have been swapped out after about 750 miles, which is as far as I like to push a shoe. Generally they've been in useable shape after that still.
Just a heads up if you are shopping. Backcountry gear has this shoe on sale for $104. Today is 8/6 and I think the sale lasts for a few days. (No affiliation with Backcountry Gear.) Of course I ordered a pair on Amazon yesterday for $130!
This thread is 4 years old, you could post this in gear deals if you think it is a good deal that people might be interested in.
