Hello,

This past weekend I took a trip to Michigan for a winter backpacking trip. When I arrived I set up my MH Airjet 2 tent, but as I did I heard some weird sounds. I looked and saw nothing. Then when I got ready to put all my gear in, I found the problem: the netting around the "door" part of the tent was coming a apart from the wall of the tent. I played around with it but when I did more came off, so I just pulled it down to the bottom of the tent. I then had basically a Tarp with a floor.

I've never really thought much about sleeping with a tarp in the winter, but it now seems more reasonable. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a tarp that preferable goes all the way to the ground, and has a floor?

Look at GoLite Shangru-La shelters, A frame floorless shelter. They have a detachable floor or nest(floor with bug net) that you can take or leave behind. The shelter will set up in all three ways:
Floorless shelter
Shelter with a floor
Shelter with full bug protection

You need trekking poles, sticks, or large tree branches to set it up.

You can do the same with an MLD Duomid, with a little modding by Ron. I've got a cuben Duomid with clip in sil floor.

Golite Shangri-La 2 or 3. I have the SL3, but like the features of the SL2 also.

Some double-wall tents can be setup as a fly only, such as Tarptent Scarp.

Wanted to say thanks for the suggestions for winter tarps. Purchased a Shangri-La 2.

Let us know how you like it, its price (with 40% off) makes it appealing.

Where did you see it for 40 % off? Best I saw was at bentgate for $150. That's about 33% but not as good as 40.

And I didn't purchase the floor yet. Wanted to see if I liked the structure first.

Use coupon code DSW10 on golite's website for 40% off. There's a thread on the deals section about it but its back on page 3.
