I'm trying to figure out what size snowshoes would work best for me. I found a great deal on some MSR lightning ascents curtesy of the forums – but only the 22" version. The recommended load for those seems to be 100-175 lbs. I weigh around 150 lbs. The shoes will be used primarily for day hikes in the local mountains (baldy, san jacinto, and san gorgornio). So with a pack, I'll be towards the latter end of the recommended load. Will that cause problems for me? I have the option of buying 5" tails for the shoes as well.

I think you'll find the tails very useful in powdery snow, I used 25" shoes the last couple of years (I'm heavier :)) and in wet or more packed snow I was fine, powdery snow I wish I had longer

as the old model doesn't allow the addition of tails, I bucked up and bought the 30" new ones this year- I figured w/ a multi day trip (more weight) I'd add a pair of tails to my pack as well
