Tarptent Moment vs GG The One

No personal experience with those, but I have seen reviews complaining of condensation. I have made a similar tent with heavy condensation.

Light weight, well made, with bug protection. I have a GG mariposa plus pack and my base weight usually stays around 10-12 lbs. whether it is 3 days or 14. I have spent the last few years hiking with a partner, so we could split any weight of a tent for two, but I am going to do much more solo hiking and longer distances so I don't need the extra room or weight of a 2 person. I also want something that can pack down small but sets up quickly. I am 6' tall. I will be using it in 3+ seasons.

I have a gg the one and love it. Weight is 16.05 ounces on my scale, 16.45 with stuff sack, 19 with my stakes. I've used it around the midwest, and in Colorado up to treeline.

Potential con's: Length, I need to be careful to make sure I don't touch at head or foot with a WM megalite long, but has not caused problem. The material is crinkly, I put the tent in a dryer (no heat) with tennis balls and between that and subsequent usage, it is quieter now. The pitch can be finicky, but again, with practice, I'm good at it now. Vestibule is fairly small.

Potential pro's: very light and packs very small. Side entry and sit-up headroom are good. Ventilation has been good, no condensation issues. After seam-seal, it has handled driving rain well. Tent stays taught throughout night and through rain, etc., unlike my sinlyon contrail.

I have no experience with the Moment. Looks like a nice tent as well.

Thanks Chris, I have been leaning toward the GG but the length and price were both an issue on paper. I have a Squall 2 by Tarptent and have been very pleased with its construction for the price. will wait and see if there are more responses

If you are in a high humidity area than you can get the liner for the Moment. (extra 4 oz)

With that you end up with one mesh wall (the door side) a fully covered top as well a s partially covered side, pretty much eliminating the risk of touching a wet wall.
Of course if you have any air movement than you can take advantage of the vents at the ends, the 360 degree bottom mesh and the two apex vents.

BTW, after 8 months no one has challenged my 49 sec set up time for the Moment.

Sure, just passing along my experience with The One. There are plenty of people on bpl who have used one or possibly both of these tents and will hopefully chime in as well.

I have the Moment, GG One and a MLD Cuben Solomid with inner net. I would rank in this order:

1. MLD Cuben Solomid
2. GG One
3. Moment

GG One:
– very light
– easy to setup
– uses trekking poles
– have used in very windy conditions without issues
– the material is a little noisy at first but has gotten quieter over time
– good ventilation
– option for open view in good weather
– very rain worthy. have used in a storm with 2-3 inches of rain and worked great

Moment
– condensation is worse than in the GG One
– heavier than the GG One
– very stable
– Limited view in good weather.
– quick setup
– good tent and I know many that like it.

The MLD solomid is just an outstanding shelter and really like it. However I still use the GG One and would buy again. I probably wouldn't buy the Moment again.

I am looking at the MLD solomid now. Don't think I will spring for the cuben fiber version on my first tarp, but I do have a BPL UL bivy that I really haven't utilized. This might be a great combo for around 16 oz total.

The other versions of the Solomid will perform very well, so don't let that effect your decision. Also, if you need a little extra room the duomid is a great option with a slight weight penalty. I don't have the duomid, but others speak very highly of it.

I have the Moment and even though I like it a lot and have had few condensation issues with it, I would recommend that you look at the Lightheart Gear Solo as another option. The silnylon version weighs virtually the same as the Moment but because it is a double wall shelter, has much better ventilation, especially in warmer weather.

I will look into that one as well, but after Brad's advice with all three and some more research I decided to order a solomid and try it out.

I have several pieces of gear from Mountain Laurel Designs and they are all excellent products, very well made. You will not be disappointed. Though I do not own the Solomid, it will be an excellent addition to your gear selection.

I've never seen a GG One tent but the photos look good.

I own a T Moment and feel it is the best solo tent going. But YMMV.
