Looking for a cup for tea/coffee. I have a double walled Snow Peak which I love for the cold weather but at 4.5oz looking for a warmer weather cup. I want something under 2oz.

What do you use?

I use a common plastic "camping" cup with measuring marks inside and a simple L-shaped handle. Used it in the summer for literally decades.

I eschew stainless "Sierra Cups" and all titanium cups. (What was the reason for making a cup out of titanium? The reasoning escapes me.)

I use my MSR Titan Kettle after I'm done using it for boils; typically I do freezer bag cooking. A BPL Trappers Mug makes a nice 'cup' for tea and cocoa but has only made it into my pack on one occasion. Something about having two items that can serve the same purpose in my pack makes me uneasy.

If you want lightweight, then some kind of plastic is likely to be the way to go.

Margarine is commonly packed in 16-ounce plastic bowls. Dried dates are commonly packed in 15-ounce bowls. I buy both food items, eat the contents, and then recycle the bowls for camping purposes. Normally I carry two bowls of the same size. I can use one for food and one for a drink, or I can put one inside the other and call it insulated (by just a bit).

GSI Outdoors lexan GREEN cups at 1.9 ounces. Sturdy, stackable and have a handle.

Be sure to get the green ones … the blue ones weigh 2.5 ounces.

I just drink the water out of streams with my bare hands. You can find plenty of edible plants also so no need to pack in any food. I've been really trying to cut back lately by just going barefoot and naked though.

I Win!

Seriously though, I use a snow peak trek titanium bowl that's 1.6 ounces and holds 20 ounces of water. I think I'm spending way too much time trying to get my pack weight down to 1 lb and I just need to spend more time enjoying the hike.

I love my MLD 475ml cup, and it does weigh in at under 2oz.

Titanium…..Sierra cup style. If I am trying to be really light, it is my only cooking container – heat the tea over an Esbit tab and then drink directly from the cup without burning my lips due to the lower heat conductivity. Pricey, though….

Also works well for digging in the sand to get down to water

Edit* just noticed that James already recommended the same cup. I endorse it as well for the following reasons:

After much surfin, I found this to have one of the best cost/weight ratios. Dirt cheap (~$6 shipped), perfect capacity for drinking, and under 2 oz.

The handle sucks, but after a little bit of bending using some pliers, and a bit of sanding to make the edges less sharp, its my go to cup.

I own a good amount of Ti, but sometimes I find aluminum plenty durable and o so much more affordable. For a cup of this capacity (e.g. very small–enough for a cup of brew) I couldn't justify the cost of the Ti Trapper mug or its equivalent.

And it serves as a nice backup cooking pot if I ever crush my caldera heiny keg. I wrap a bit of fiberglass wick to the top portion of the handle to prevent finger burns

I use a paper Star Bucks cup with lid and cardboard cozy. Before it fails I get another, out for a week I take two. Fits inside my pot, light, cheap and tastes good. Metal and coffee don't mix IMHO.

Marc- do you have the weights on these separate by chance? most interested in the one w/ the sleeve- looking for something for winter use, titanium isn't going to cut it :)

thanks
