These are pretty new and I am not sure anyone has tried them yet. http://www.hokaoneone.com/ The shoes are call the Hoka One One Mafate. They look really goofy but the concept seems good. They are a trail running shoe with a extra thick but much less dense EVA foam in the midsole. The are designed to absorb most of the impact associated with running down hills.
I work a running store in Anchorage called skinny raven and we recently got some of these in. At first they feel weird but after running in them a while I could really see there benefit for people who are going to be fast packing and want to blast down hills and not want to worry about there knees going out. They are surprisingly light and would be nice to wear for HOURS.
If anyone has used them let me know what you think, is it something you would be interested in?
Eric
