I know there are some "feet" people on the forums here with lots of knowledge. What are the main differences between men's and women's shoes? Could I possibly get a good fit out of a woman's shoe?

No harm giving it a shot.

I've worn some men's shoes I found on major sale or whatnot… They fit well enough but usually I find men's shoes to be too wide. And I have wide feet for a woman. They may not necessarily be too wide in the footbox, but usually through the instep and heel.

I'd assume if you had narrow feet, you might have better luck.

Expect a narrower heel overall. I also have wider female feet, I don't wear men's shoes as I slop all over the back, leading to blisters. Women's shoes stop that and hug the foot.

So yeah, if you have narrow male feet, try them out!

I'd say I have average to narrow mens feet, so I may have to give it a try. How do women's sizes work? Are they typically two sizes higher than mens? (8 mens = 10 womens?)

Two sizes higher is typically right. I usually wear an 8.5 women's and a 6.5 in men's (if I ever find that size!). I had a pair of Chacos I got in a thrift store in a men's 7 and they worked, but were too wide in the heel as stated above. Now I have a pair in a women's size 8 wide instead. Go figure…

Go to a big chain shoe store and try on a few pairs to check your size… and ignore all the clerks and customers staring at you… :)
