I've never owned any smartwool garments and thought it was a pretty good deal so picked up two. Are they similar to a cap 2 or three….possibly neither.
I also picked up two.
I have a few pairs of Smartwool socks (which I like), but I've stayed with Icebreaker, I/O Bio, and Woolpower for my baselayers…
At $30, I couldn't resist picking up a few to try them out…
I don't have any experience with Patagonia's Cap line, but as far as I know: those are polyester and the Smartwool is merino wool. Merino wool is magic, imo…
Maybe someone with Cap experience could chime in….

no experience with cap 2. I have a cap 3 zip and a microlight zip. microlight is definitely lighter and less insulated than cap 3.
