Favorite Tenkara rod?

Thanks Christopher! Great info. Has anyone experience with both rods? I really like the packability and stonger storing section of the hane, but I wonder about it's limitations due to it's 10'6" length. This is one of the benefits of the Iwana 12'. However, the Iwana is less packable and I believe requires a rod case. Anyone have any specs on the case that comes with the Tenkara rods? Other insights appreciated!

note: If I had the money (read not married and in grad school), I would buy them both. In no way am I questioning Ryan Jordan's design. I've been flyfishing for around 8 years, and the dude just gets it. Now that I'm diving into the ul world (fingers crossed for that tarp this Christmas) I think it's just natural that I try the Tenkara set up. Just trying to get the most bang for my limited buck.

I'm not sure the Hane is any more packable than the Iwana. I know it is shorter by 4" or so, but at 20.5" closed the Iwana strapped along side a pack doesn't protrude too much, if any, above the pack thereby causing an issue.

I've had both the BPL Hane rod and the Iwana. I've sold them both, but only because I don't think UL flyfishing is for me.

They were both great rods, but I think the Iwana is the better choice because of the length. They were both as durable – you don't need a case for the Iwana either. And when collapsed, the Iwana was only 4" longer (even though it's the same weight) – so it's just as collapsible.

That being said, you can't go wrong with either.

I think what Dennis said is correct–they're both great rods. The big difference is that the Hane was designed to be more compact and be able to fit inside of a backpack (though I never carry mine that way). I always keep mine in the outside side pocket ready to go if I see a good fishing opportunity along the trail.

I prefer the extra length and contoured handle of the Iwana. The 12' Iwana is the same weight as the Hane and the 11' is 0.2 ounces lighter. While backpacking, I usually carry the 11' Iwana but most people seem to prefer the 12' Iwana. For the same weight, I think I'd rather have the extra 2+ feet.
