Hey all
I am thinking of buying these snowshoes off the gear swap. Was wondering if any of you have them or have used them before?

I am just getting into winter backpacking and snowshoeing…I have used snowshoes before, but they have always been rentals.

Do you think these would be a good shoe for me? I am 5'7'' and about 16lbs. It says the shoes are rated up to 200lb…so figure my wight plus my back would be under the 200lb mark.

Thoughts? comments?

Thanks
Dan

I bought a set of the YC 'shoes & poles for my son-in-law last year. They looked as strong as my Atlas 'shoes and for the money it's a great de3al. I got mine at COSTCO.

BTW, that length is fine for you. You'll be able to avoid sinking in a lot better with aa 35" 'shoe. It's long for a snowshoe but you'll soon get used to it. After all, I do fine on 7 foot BC skis.

From what I have read these shoes are meant for trail use and packed snow. I plan on using them for some simple snow camping trips, so I would assume it would mostly by tail packed now with maybe a little bit of off trail work. WOuld these shoes be good for that type of terrain, or do I need a more heavy duty snowshoe.

What type of boots will these work with? Is there a specific type of boot? Would they work with my snowboarding boots? what about my regular hiking boots?

Thanks
Dan

How can I word it politely? I can't frankly.

About 4 or 5 years ago I torqued a pair of Atlas shoes and needed a quick replacement so I picked up a pair of YC's at Sams Club so I could leave the next day.

To be nice I will say they float well, they don't fall apart and work well if you are on FLAT snow with no icy crust.

On anything over a 5* angle they become sleds. On that trip I ended up getting in over my head, crawling to a rock outcropping and taking them off, strapping them on my pack and climbing hands and feet to get out of a bad area.

Needless to say I learned a lesson that day and went to MSR Denali EVO's for Ford and I after that. Those shoes are still working perfectly after many trips and abuse. IMO get something that is well rated instead of going cheap. And the MSR's are not that much more really $$.
