I just saw this on Ti Goat's site.
It is the Sierra Sniveller but uses 20D black intrepid fabric instead of the 30D ripstop. It also uses 900 fill down versus 800 fill. It appears to be 2 oz less than the standard JRB quilt. To top it off, it is black! and only $20 more.
This is a really nice upgrade to JRB's well respect sniveler.

Dec 2, 2010 at 5:26 pm #1670262Nice find. I like it but it would be too narrow for me. I need at least 58" at the shoulder for a quilt.
Dec 2, 2010 at 5:27 pm #1670264Jamie,
I did see it a while back….now I look at my Sierra Sniveller with a slight sense of distain for not being the "Special" version.
Oh how the love disappears when another shiny new piece of UL gear comes along. :)

Dec 2, 2010 at 5:41 pm #1670268Tony, Maybe I'm not helping:) I was just extremely impressed with the changes.
First, Start with the No Sniveller which is an almost legendary UL item. But it has some flaws. In my opinion it is a tad too narrow at 48" in the torso and too wide in the footbox…48" footbox is huge. I have a stealth (same size) so I'm speaking from experience.
So last year the Jacks make a really cool improvement with the Sierra Sniveller….reduce the footbox and increase the torso width. I made a MYOG quilt with nearly the same dimensions and love it.
Still there is a problem in my book. The 1.1 oz ripstop the Jacks use is great balance of cost and performance, but I think momentum has a much nicer feel and its lighter. This was one of the main reasons I made my own quilt.
So this Ti Goat special nows uses top line fabric AND higher fill down and improve dimensions. You can still wear it like a poncho too!
The old legend just went to one of the greatest quilts available for very little upcharge.

Yeah, I hear you….definitely good stuff and I like the idea of the softer fabric.
$20 extra for that sort of love is very reasonable.
I have to take comfort that I bought two of the Sierra Snivelers last year on special….buy 2, get the 2nd at 50% off.
Using them both with omni tape for a family quilt for three in my Rainshadow2 Tarptent.
That said, it really is a great and reasonably priced quilt in either version.
That said….yeah, I would like the Special one.

Dec 2, 2010 at 9:12 pm #1670348What's the weight difference?
Dec 2, 2010 at 9:18 pm #16703492 oz
Dec 2, 2010 at 9:35 pm #1670354I just got the TiGoat Sierra Sniveller last week. It's my first quilt so I can't compare to anything but the quality seems top notch. And the fabric is extremely soft.
Dec 3, 2010 at 7:18 am #1670422i saw this last week as well. very cool item. thinking about selling my hudson river and picking up one of these. very nice fabric choice.
Dec 3, 2010 at 7:49 am #1670427Nice. With the new, lighter fabric, this is a great option for people who don't want to lay out the cash (and the wait time) for a Nunatak Arc Alpinist. I had a Hudson River, and while I liked it a lot, I prefer the Quantum fabric on the Nunatak Specialist I picked up on Gear Swap. Since they were so close in temp rating, I sold the Hudson River. I recently picked up a Nunatak Arc AT 3/4 length bag for 40* temps, as well as a 5* WM Antelope for winter, so I was thinking about selling the Specialist and splitting the temp difference by MYOG-ing a ~20 degree quilt. This UL Sierra Sniveler looks like a interesting option for buying my way out of the trouble of making my own. (Small apartment + curious cat might make working with down a nightmare.)
The 52" width is probably just about right for me. 48" on the Hudson was okay because it was a warm weather quilt and occasional drafts when rolling over weren't an issue, and the 55" of the Specialist is nice, but more generous than I really need.
Thanks for pointing it out.
