Heheh– 9″ WIDE and two pounds. Too bad you can’t sleep in it. Must have been a slack day somewhere in the organization.
For something really UL, check out this new Spryderco baby knife:
http://spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=223
length overall 4 3/8″ (111 mm) blade length 1 15/16″ (49 mm) blade steel 8Cr13MoV
length closed 2 7/16″ (62 mm) cutting edge 1 3/4″ (44 mm) weight .65 oz (18 g)
hole diameter 9/32″ (7 mm) blade thickness 5/64″ (2 mm) handle material FRN

2lbs, 11oz
43oz total.
At nine inches, I would have to grab it with both hands, and the fingers from one hand would not touch the fingers from the other.
Oh well, at least its priced right ;)
The spyderco looks very cool.
I like the Jester in plain edge (serrated shown here), it is a little lighter at 15.7 grams and has the same size blade.:
length overall 4 13/32″ (112 mm) blade length 1 15/16″ (49 mm) blade steel AUS-6
length closed 2 1/2″ (64 mm) cutting edge 1 3/4″ (44 mm) weight 0.6 oz (15.7 g)
hole diameter 11/32″ (9 mm) blade thickness 5/64″ (2 mm) handle material FRN

I have a Jester and like it. From what I can tell it’s identical to the ladybug, except it has that scalloped part at the top front of the blade. It’s handy since you can put your forefinger on it when making cuts.

This knife has an amazing feel in the hand. The control and leverage are phenomenal and as a lightweight knife it is unmatched by anything I’ve tried. The only little knife I’ve used that feels like a big knife. (Mine’s the plain blade version.)

It’s been said that Spyderdo designs their knives in the dark — i.e. based on feel and utility rather than for looks!

The funny thing is, their knives wind up looing cooler than most.
Brian,
How is the clip on that knife? My main criticism of Spyderco is that their clip is too loose, ie it does not grip tight enough.
I took a Spyderco Delica on my last hike, and it kept coming out of my pocket. When I got back to the trailhead it was gone :(
Dan
Tight. Mine lives in the back pocket of my jeans and the clip eventually frays the denim. I’ve had it in my back pocket every day for about 9 months now with no apparent change.
A little while ago I bent the clip trying to hang the knife on the strap of my backpack… I just detached it and straightened it out with a pair of pliers. Initially it was too tight so I actually loosened it a bit.
Hope this helps!
Take a look at the trango piranha, 0.7 oz.http://www.trango.com/prod.php?id=104
The little Trango Piranha is a great looking blade. The bare minimum, which I’m sure a number of us do to our knives anyway. Why buy scales if you’re just going to pull them off.
