CN1K.08 cuben fiber (white) and 30d silicone coated 1.35/oz nylon (navy)

This time I used a single row of stitches
for the center seam, no folding before
stitching, #14 needle, 46 nylon thread,
6 stitches per inch.cuben 1 vs sil before.jpg

Tie outs stitched with a 5 pass z tack,
no reinforcements and NO HEM this time, just stitched right to
the fabric.cuben 1 vs sil tieout detail.jpgcuben 1 vs sil tieout detail b.jpg

The failure occured on both the sil nylon and the cuben fiber at the center
seam. Scale showed 42 lbs at the time

David,
It looks like the thread failed also.
Is that correct?

BTW, thanks for going through this drill. Nothing like fast-and-dirty, real-world, hands-on data acquisition.

Yes, it did. That is kind of interesting as the webbing is
1 inch wide and if the force is transmitted to one inch
of the center seam, that 1 inch would hold 6 stitches, the thread is 7 lbs per stitch breaking force, and the whole shebang gave way at 42 lbs.
