Hello there everyone. I’ve been backpacking/camping for a while now, but have more recently begun to lighten up my pack. I’m looking at getting a new, lighter sleeping bag to replace my old one which was a bit bulky and overkill in most weather. I live in Dayton, OH and do most of my backpacking in southern Ohio, West Virginia, or Kentucky. I work at the Gander Mtn near Dayton and I’m between getting two Slumberjack bags (the only decently lightweight bags we carry). I’ve been looking at the Baffin +20 (2lb 10oz) and the Super Guide +30 (2lb 4oz). I’m just wondering if you think the 20 degree bag is overkill for a 3 season bag.

I have posted this elsewhere. Slumberjack is notorious for exaggerating the warmth ratings of its bags. While comfort and warmth are subjective, you should generally add 10 degrees (or more ) when it comes to Slumberjack — meaning that 20F bag will likely keep you warm down to 30F — and that’s about it — unless you bundle yourself up appropriately with warmer clothes.

I second the add 10 or more to the Slumberjack bags, I have the ultimate 20 that I purchased because it was cheap and almost froze on a night when temperatures were in the high 30’s…
