My current windshirt (no hood) weighs 4.8 oz for a men’s small.
The Helly Hansen Mars sounds like it maybe be under 2oz in my size:

Any experience/thoughts out there? The bpl review is helpful, but seems to be a pre-production model. (And yes, I know it lacks a hood, but for my anticipated uses I’d rather use a separate hat or cap and reserve using a hood for my hardshell. And although the retail price is a bit high, I can get it for $50, so that’s not a personal concern to me.)

I went in to the HH store in the mall this weekend and checked out the Mars while browsing around. It’s very light (no scale with me). The finish seems somewhat different than my Ion. The Ion is slick and shiny while the Mars seemed more matte. The laser cut holes are interesting under the arms although I’m still a little worried that would be a failure point. Overall from my initial impression I’d probably try one out if I got a big discount like you.
