Leigh,

I had a version of it and sold it. Quality, interior volume, height were all perfect and I feel it would work for most.

I sold it because I prefer the ease of entry/exit of a side-entry shelter; especially when it's raining. I use the serenity from SMD instead, w/my Gatewood cape providing rain protection.

If you are happy with your spinn, then buy the MLD Serenity.

An alternative to the MLD Serenity is the GoLite Shangri-La 1 Nest. There are a few considerations to think about:

1. It is almost 2x heavier than the MLD, lists at 15 oz. If you aren't packing your hammock gear, that's not bad, but with your hammock stuff, the weight might matter.

2. The floor is/should be more waterproof than a silnylon floor, and less slippery, so you might even be able to leave behind a ground cloth in some situations.

3. At campmor right now (and other places online), it is $65.00. This is the main reason I bought one to pair with a Gossamer Gear SpinnTwinn, as sometimes I have to balance budget and weight.

Just to note, I would have no reservations about getting anything from MLD. Great stuff — the Exodus is my favorite pack!

I have one, and I agree with Don. It's a great shelter for one, as long as you don't mind the front entry. It's particularly nice when you use it with a duo tarp, because it's just big enough for one, and leaves loads of room under the tarp for other stuff, like cooking, in case of storminess.

Also, since the front and back are both made of Shield Silnylon, they're wind and waterproof.

I agree with Don and Rakesh,

I just hiked three days with the SMD Serenity. Rained both nights. I came to really appreciate the side entry.

All three mentioned here are good.
I think the Golite may be bigger and I'm pretty sure more durable. Being cheaper than the SMD and MLD is a plus as well.
