I'm looking for some lightweight rain gear for my 9 year old son. To date, i've used thin plastic ponchos for him but I'm concerned about durability now that he is old enough for multi-day trips.

For what it's worth, i use driducks for my raingear. I'm also not that interested in dropping big dollars on a jacket that he will grow out of soon.

ideas?

For my grandkids, I've gotten the coated nylon rain jacket and pants from Campmor or from REI. Of course since they live in western Washington and go to the beach at least once a month, they get to wear the stuff a lot, especially in winter.

Frogg Toggs makes a kid size, but I don't know if DriDucks does. I suspect the Frogg Toggs would be about the same price as the coated nylon.

Women's small size. It is what I did for Ford when he was that age. And I bought not so well known brands……

If you live near an REI, you can usually find deals there, especially right now with all items ending in $.83 on clearance prices. I just got my daughters some Marmot Driclime shirts for 11.00.

Also (and I have not used these so I don't know anything about them) but L.L.Bean often has good prices on new kids clothing, like this:

or these pants:
