I'm trying to decide between these two women's rain jackets and I'd like some advice.
The Montane uses Entrant DT and Marmot uses MemBrain Strata as their waterproofing membrane. Which of these have better breathability and waterproofness? I have read comments comparing both to eVent and saying they are close to eVent's breathability.
I will be using my rain jacket as a wind jacket too, so breathability is quite important, I guess. However, I tend not to sweat much under aerobic activity so I should not easily wet out the jacket.
Right now, I am in the UK and will be wearing it throughout the rainy autumn and winter here so being waterproof enough to withstand a full day's rain is important.
I will be packing my jacket in my bag and taking it almost everywhere I go while travelling, hiking, etc. so being lightweight is very important. Based on the website's specs, the Marmot is lighter by 80g (~3oz) but both jackets are light and small enough and I don't mind carrying a bit more weight if that's what I need.
I think the Montane's hood is better as it has a reinforced wired peak. I also like that the pockets are placed higher so they can be used with a hip belt. It also seems to be of better, more durable material. But of course, the Marmot's biggest advantage is its weight.
I have found both jackets for about the same price online but the Montane on sale in my size is only available in the vivid green colour, and I'm worried that could be too glaring. Anyone seen them before? Also, do you know if the Marmot's Lithium colour is more like white or grey and is it translucent? I have only seen these online and I should probably check out the size and colours in the shop before I order. Does anyone know where in London can I find shops that carry these jackets?
Both jackets have their pros and cons and its hard to decide. Please give me some advice if you've had any experience with these jackets or the male versions too (noticed that most people here are males). I will be using it mostly for backpacking, travelling, hiking (mostly trails).
Here are the links to both jackets.
